“When you write it down, you take back your power.”
Journaling sounds simple—but when fear is involved, even picking up the pen can feel overwhelming.
In Course 10 of The Soul’s Ascent, we dive into the emotional resistance that keeps us from writing—and the powerful release that happens when we finally do. Journaling is more than a wellness trend. It’s a mirror. A medicine. A sacred space to transform fear into self-trust and clarity.
If fear has been living in your body, your mind, or your story… this post is for you.
Why Do We Avoid Journaling?
Most people aren’t afraid of the act of writing. They’re afraid of what might surface when they do.
Afraid of judgment—especially from themselves
Afraid of uncovering pain they’ve tried to suppress
Afraid of what they’ll discover if they really listen
But here’s the truth: journaling is one of the safest, most empowering tools for healing fear.
It’s where the invisible becomes visible. It’s where emotion becomes insight. It’s where old beliefs get rewritten.
Journaling as a Clearing Practice
I personally use two journals:
The Clearing Journal – For releasing heavy emotions, limiting beliefs, and unprocessed pain
The Blessing Journal – For recording love, joy, breakthroughs, and gratitude
This helps me create emotional balance. It also teaches me that I’m not defined by my pain—or my joy—but that I hold space for both.
When I look back through my clearing journal, I see how much I’ve survived and released. When I look back through my blessing journal, I see how much I’ve become.
Flip the Emotion
One of my favorite practices is this:
Write down the limiting thought or fear
Then write the opposite—a loving truth
Affirm it out loud. Let it land in your body.
Example from my healing journey: “I’m not good enough.” BECAME... “I am worthy of love.” “I am beautiful.” “I am good enough.”
These aren’t just affirmations—they are reminders of your truth.
Make Journaling Exciting Again
Think of journaling not as a chore—but as a conversation with your soul. Your journal becomes a witness. A mirror. A space to:
Mark emotional milestones
Celebrate your resilience
Track your healing
See yourself clearly
When you look back a year from now, you’ll be amazed by how far you’ve come.
What If You’re Still Afraid to Start?
Start small.
Write one sentence.
Start with a feeling, not a story.
Use prompts like:
What fear am I holding today?
What belief am I ready to release?
What does my body want me to know?
No one has to read it. It doesn’t have to be “beautiful.” It just has to be honest.

You Are the Author of Your Healing
Fear may write the first lines—but love gets to finish the story.
By writing down your truth, you reclaim it. By expressing your fear, you release it. By flipping the emotion, you rewire your mind and open the heart.
You are not broken. You are becoming.
One page at a time.
